DAY 2-Alejo is conquering one skecth at a time...

Today the classes were more dynamic and the level of interest was much stronger. Was it the still life presentation or a glance in Alejo's work? we will never know... but we stayed hopeful.

Alejo was more comfortable, challenged from time to time but he held his own and pushed the students to give their very best. Alejo went step by step explaining how to draw a bottle, a cup and a box.. wow from that they will know how to design their first jewelry line!!! How exciting!!! and along with the students, the teachers and even Rachel J. I told them how lucky they were to start from the beginning. I wished I knew how to draw when I started making jewelry. It allows you to put on paper your ideas, and speeds up the process of jewelry making.

Day 2 was good... Alejo will be going alone next week, we have a photo shoot.

Journey with JRE LEE CENTER-RAX in the community

It is funny how one thing lead to another. I sat down with Diane Superville and Maria Estevez at a Starbucks Cafe to discuss RAX participation in their Fashion for Charity event to be held in September 25th. I asked them who was going to benefit from this fundraiser. Diane said JRE LEE Center a place where young girls are given second chances and the education necessary to follow their dreams. I wanted to be part of it. I not only wanted to be part of the fashion show event fundraising, I wanted to give back. So Diane and I met with Mrs. Warren principal of the JRE LEE Center. After many setbacks, Mrs. Raffington teacher of fashion Marketing and I put together a plan...and here we are.
November 18, 2010 Alejo and I took a box full of drawing supplies, his sketch book and the heart full of hope to be able to share what we know with these girls. Alejo had what we call in french "Baptheme de Feu", it was his real first time teaching and considering the level of motivation and interest I would say he got lucky!!!! some were interested some not. I assisted and gave my support as much as I could. We were there from 7:00 a.m until 1:30 p.m. They were back to back classes with very short breaks. We had a quick bite and were back in these classrooms. Some of the girls drew hearts, stars, and flowers a way to express their soft sides, the deepest desires of their hearts. We had a great day 1. Alejo taught them to draw with love which will result in amazing sketching. I hope this is a skill they will grow to appreciate. Sketching is an important skill that can be transfered in any field and jewelry making can be something to create an escape system, a way to make money or simply a way to express themselves.
