DAY 2-Alejo is conquering one skecth at a time...

Today the classes were more dynamic and the level of interest was much stronger. Was it the still life presentation or a glance in Alejo's work? we will never know... but we stayed hopeful.

Alejo was more comfortable, challenged from time to time but he held his own and pushed the students to give their very best. Alejo went step by step explaining how to draw a bottle, a cup and a box.. wow from that they will know how to design their first jewelry line!!! How exciting!!! and along with the students, the teachers and even Rachel J. I told them how lucky they were to start from the beginning. I wished I knew how to draw when I started making jewelry. It allows you to put on paper your ideas, and speeds up the process of jewelry making.

Day 2 was good... Alejo will be going alone next week, we have a photo shoot.

Journey with JRE LEE CENTER-RAX in the community

It is funny how one thing lead to another. I sat down with Diane Superville and Maria Estevez at a Starbucks Cafe to discuss RAX participation in their Fashion for Charity event to be held in September 25th. I asked them who was going to benefit from this fundraiser. Diane said JRE LEE Center a place where young girls are given second chances and the education necessary to follow their dreams. I wanted to be part of it. I not only wanted to be part of the fashion show event fundraising, I wanted to give back. So Diane and I met with Mrs. Warren principal of the JRE LEE Center. After many setbacks, Mrs. Raffington teacher of fashion Marketing and I put together a plan...and here we are.
November 18, 2010 Alejo and I took a box full of drawing supplies, his sketch book and the heart full of hope to be able to share what we know with these girls. Alejo had what we call in french "Baptheme de Feu", it was his real first time teaching and considering the level of motivation and interest I would say he got lucky!!!! some were interested some not. I assisted and gave my support as much as I could. We were there from 7:00 a.m until 1:30 p.m. They were back to back classes with very short breaks. We had a quick bite and were back in these classrooms. Some of the girls drew hearts, stars, and flowers a way to express their soft sides, the deepest desires of their hearts. We had a great day 1. Alejo taught them to draw with love which will result in amazing sketching. I hope this is a skill they will grow to appreciate. Sketching is an important skill that can be transfered in any field and jewelry making can be something to create an escape system, a way to make money or simply a way to express themselves.

Fashion for Charity

When I met Mrs. Diane Superville and Maria Estevez coordinator of Fashion for Charity I knew I had found a match for RAX. The event was created to benefit the community and it is important to be integrated in a place where you live. The event on September 25 was going to reunite some great retailers such as Banana Republic and GAP along with Men'sWear House, Cache and Tea&Rose handbags and shoes.

We were honored to also have met Mrs. Warren principal of J.R.E Lee Center the recepient of the fundraising. RAX even decided to team up with the center and create a project to empower the young women attending the center. In December 2010, these girls waiting for a dream to happen will have the opportunityto show the public what they are made of. We are looking forward and will leave you with this: take your compassion further and it will be a rewarding journey with priceless lessons..

Gratiamo to Diane Superville and her team for an amazing initiative and event. We also want to thank the photographer Armando from Twomatos that provided photos of the event.

RAX at FrenchTuesdays Bastille Day Celebration

Last Wednesday was Bastille Day Celebration and RAX was one of the sponsors of French Tuesday's St Tropez event at La Piagga. It was an exciting and warm night! At the entrance, the members could partake in a raffle where the winner could take home the grand prize of Paris and Notre Dame de Paris piece from our Rakelita Collection. The joyous Bastille Day "feteurs" were given their St Tropez pin marking their official decision to be a part of this amazing celebration courtesy of RAX. Thanks to model Masha and Janelli for their beautiful smiles and for making sure that no feteurs would be without their St Tropez pin! An inspirational afternoon with Lorenzo White NFL player

On August 21, we were invited to join the sponsors that support Lorenzo White Foundation. We prepared amazing Gratiamo Key rings for the 20 NFL athletes friends of the cause. Little did we know that we were going to be inspired by Mr. White himself. After Corhinn presented Mr. White with the special Lorenzo pin RAX custom made for him, he graciously invited us to immortalize the moment. Corhinn and long lost friend from college Johanne paused with us looking so amazing in RAX Collection.

Gratiamo Mr. White and hope you enjoy your pin!!!

Go visit Lorenzo White foundation for more information. It is an organization that creates a future for children in the streets through sports.

RAX coming to the rescue of Red Brick show from 3C campaign

Now the life of a designer is also the life of lifeguard!! It is a calling. Sometimes you must do what you must do!! and we glad we did. Model Masha called me for an emergency case she said while we were having our chats with Mr. White. We were called to accesorize the show that was in need of jewelry and accessories! Among the designers were Mimi Pericles with her swimwear line. RAX matched perfectly well with the swimwear show.

The founders of the show are inspirational entrepreneurs as well. I was very honored to be part of their show for a purpose. They have launched a campaign against HIV and will continue their campaign with many exciting projects in the up coming months.

Gratiamo to Isaiah and Steven!

Rax is giving back!!!

It feels amazing to be able to help. I wish I could do more but next week I am about to raise $500.00 to help a fellow artist victim of the earthquake. I can't stop saying it, it just feels very fulfilling.
I am encouraging all to participate at Arte Americas at Miami Beach Convention Center next week from March 26-29.

I am among those who shared their art, their passion to give a hand. There will be painters, photographers using all kinds of medium.

Thank you

Rachel J.

These are the pieces: Eventail and Bossa Nova. I made them with love and they are very eco chic!!! They will serve multiple purpose: enhance inner beauty, give a hand to Haitian artists back home. It is quiet amazing!!!

Our Chinese friends...

As I promised, I will tell you here what I saw at the Chinese Festival. I visited two booths that had a donation box on their table. My heart was filled with hope for my dear Haiti because this is the proof that not only we have friends but we are not forgotten. Simply thank you, dear friends of Haiti.

Gratiamo

Chinese Festival and a definite sale!!!!

Last Sunday was the Chinese Festival at Miami Dade College, Kendall campus. It was simply a cultural experience. The shows were very entertaining and educational. Jessica Yap, a young teenager playing the violin traveled from Jamaica for the festivities. I was also taken by the drummers of a Japanese restaurant. They performed at Disney World and made quiet an impact with their drums!!!!! I was tempted to buy their CD's because it inspired me and as an artist, you must always find new sources of inspiration. The CD's was reasonable but I simply did not have enough cash. I asked the lady to pay with my card and of course she could not help me there. I walked away and continued visiting the booths. When I got to a vendor of egg rolls, I had the experience of my life. See, I know very little about egg rolls and so I was looking to experience. I asked her how much were her egg rolls, and she said 3 for $5.00. I hesitated, well she had already packed them and was just waiting for me to purchase them. OMG!!!!! no wonder Chinese people have the key to wealth. I felt that I did not have control of the situation, it was natural for me to hand her my money. Case closed.

I moved to the next booth, $5.00 poorer, looking for something special. There were beautiful chinese arts and crafts. What really caught my attention was this lady spraying on a hat. It was simply awesome!!!!!! She looked so happy and so into her art, that I experience first hand magic. I have also met some really nice Chinese people from the Children school of Doral. They were helpful and well they were also friends of my dear Haiti. They had donation boxes all for Haiti. That was just touching and I promised the principal to send her this blog. Hopefully, she will follow it!!!!! I will expand on the amazing love for Haiti from the Chinese in my next post.
As of now, I hope you will enjoy the pictures!!!!
