Our Chinese friends...

As I promised, I will tell you here what I saw at the Chinese Festival. I visited two booths that had a donation box on their table. My heart was filled with hope for my dear Haiti because this is the proof that not only we have friends but we are not forgotten. Simply thank you, dear friends of Haiti.

Chinese Festival and a definite sale!!!!

Last Sunday was the Chinese Festival at Miami Dade College, Kendall campus. It was simply a cultural experience. The shows were very entertaining and educational. Jessica Yap, a young teenager playing the violin traveled from Jamaica for the festivities. I was also taken by the drummers of a Japanese restaurant. They performed at Disney World and made quiet an impact with their drums!!!!! I was tempted to buy their CD's because it inspired me and as an artist, you must always find new sources of inspiration. The CD's was reasonable but I simply did not have enough cash. I asked the lady to pay with my card and of course she could not help me there. I walked away and continued visiting the booths. When I got to a vendor of egg rolls, I had the experience of my life. See, I know very little about egg rolls and so I was looking to experience. I asked her how much were her egg rolls, and she said 3 for $5.00. I hesitated, well she had already packed them and was just waiting for me to purchase them. OMG!!!!! no wonder Chinese people have the key to wealth. I felt that I did not have control of the situation, it was natural for me to hand her my money. Case closed.

I moved to the next booth, $5.00 poorer, looking for something special. There were beautiful chinese arts and crafts. What really caught my attention was this lady spraying on a hat. It was simply awesome!!!!!! She looked so happy and so into her art, that I experience first hand magic. I have also met some really nice Chinese people from the Children school of Doral. They were helpful and well they were also friends of my dear Haiti. They had donation boxes all for Haiti. That was just touching and I promised the principal to send her this blog. Hopefully, she will follow it!!!!! I will expand on the amazing love for Haiti from the Chinese in my next post.
As of now, I hope you will enjoy the pictures!!!!

Britto at Coconut Grove art festival

So much color, so much fun!!! like a big party. Yes, that what's it was a great party.

Shu Juan Lu and her circle collection

This was a very impressive sight. I felt that I was entering a studio with many ideas of expressing womanhood. Some of the ideas presented were giving me the sensation that I could be flirty, or sexy or shy. It was truly amusing. I met the designer and we are planning to talk about incorporating the circle collection to the up coming presentation of Rakelita at Fashion Designer Expo. She will be in Miami for another month or so.
Great idea!!! timeless!!!! Gratiamo definitely!!!!

Coconut Grove Festival 2010

Rachel J with Michael Gard at the festival. I was taken by his art, his expression of life. A dance done by men and women made out of woven wire.
Truly beautiful sculptures. You can find out more about these dancing people on his website. www.michaelgard.com

A day scrapping inspiration at Coconut Grove Festival

The Coconut Grove Festival was truly a source of inspiration. The marriage of colors springing from the paintings, digital art, clay work, jewelry, sculptures was just mind blowing. I went down to the grove with my new friend Cecilia and I met amazing people. Some we connected some were probably tired being to the festival 3 days. In any case, I found much inspiration at the festival.

This is me with Michael Gard from San Francisco. He has the people in his art dancing the dance of life. He lives off his art. What a blessing!!!

Fitting for Feb. 26 event

I was invited to participate at the Black History Month celebration on Feb. 26. I decided to show case some of the pieces of the Christmas Collection and introducing the new one. The new line will be exclusively made out of tagua and hemp. Tagua is a nut that I am just fascinated with. There is so much to learn from it, the beauty is just so natural. It is taking from the inner beauty, just like the rays of the sun. It is called the ivory of the vegetable world. I am excited just by the thought of the journey I am taking with tagua and other seeds such as acai. I will share here the progress I will be making. As of now, we are just in the infancy stage.

Later, I am planning to go to Columbia and see the palm trees myself, visit the artisans and ask many questions about the tagua that I fell in love with. I am very hopeful. I sense great satisfaction from working with tagua. I will keep you posted.
Here I want to share with you the fitting we had with my new models joining Djazile.

Djazile is my dear friend who I am so grateful for. She has a great heart and soul very much connected to the earth. She taught me that. She taught me many things that helped me on my spiritual awakenings. She has modeled in Spain and her inner beauty shines right through.

They all have interesting personality and Rax enhances each one of them unique inner beauty. Gabriella, Arielle, Chris and Van Meo have all great potential to become the image of the new line. All of these young women are very young but different sizes and shapes... unique and natural.

The journey begins now...
